The snow rolled in before I could finish this one. I planned to finish it in the studio, using photos as a reference. But after working outside from observation, the photos felt totally useless and seemed to depict a different experience from the one I had. Working from memory and just responding to the painting felt much better.

Sun Mountain and it's companion, Moon Mountain flank Santa Fe to the east. I like going here to feel the sunshine and warmed up rocks on a cold day. It's a great place to watch the sun set and usually turns pink at dusk.

This mountain and the surrounding peaks and foothills wrap around Santa Fe like open arms. It’s one of my favorite places to run and it can be seen from pretty much anywhere in town. It’s name means “Watchtower Mountain” for its expansive views from the summit.
